is a quote from the video below and is basically another young chap making a fortune, kind of like what happened to Facebook. This particular chap is Michael Karnjanaprakorn and just by his ridiculously long surname, he has to be Thai but apparently currently based in the big apple;New York.
His 'innovation' in a nutshell is a learning experience where anyone can sign up to hold ''offline'' classes in any subject and area (literally e.g. make up tutorials or baking classes) and each class would have a limited number of students who each pay a small fee.
The project's name?
SkillShare.
Simple to remember and direct names just like Fourshare, Foursquare and Facebook.
The site is termed as a 'marketplace' for learning where one would browse online for the classes they would find of interest and if they get the slot, they just turn up at the stated location. Sounds rather dodge for our 'dangerous' day and age but I'm sure the teachers get thoroughly checked and reviews are brought back etc. The concept was brought about with the current university situation whereby more and more students are finding it hard bearing difficult to pay their tuition fees. I mean come on, American universities ask for an insane amount let alone the UK which has been visually displayed by the student protests within the past few months. Its true that not every graduate will get a job where they can optimize their diploma skills to the maximum potential and University is not 'everything'. University is not just a massive selfish research hub, it also is just another device of the government whereby they are aware of their solid 'control'.
We always learn something new everyday and to be able to learn from others in the flesh for a small fee while meeting new people of the same interest is just.....wonderful! no>?
Its better explained in their promotional video below and it just makes you tinker about the bigger picture of learning, universities, success and basically just life. We seem to forget most of the time that we are in control of our own lives so why beckon to society's norms? Yes because it is easier however, life is just like playing an MMORPG, you can customize everything if you really desire it. Oui? Oui!
Hmmmmm...a place to share skills, why not? What use is keeping all your skills to yourself? Selfish fob.
Was looking at their website and the TEACH section is tempting, how hard can it be to conduct a class? Haha I'd probably be so nervous but it would be fun at the day of the session. The founders have the right kind of humour too, they say, 'Why should you teach on SkillShare?'
1. Because you are awesome.
(^o^)
How Awesome is that.
